But that's because the staff at the reference desk were almost always student workers; I consulted them a few times my freshman year but they never seemed to do anything but duplicate the catalog searches I'd already tried. So before we decry students' poor library-use skills, let's consider what may be driving them away.János McGhiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15823686503188187386noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-968575848222434630.post-43462612802578397772011-08-12T05:45:24.911-05:002011-08-12T05:45:24.911-05:003D printing services will blow your mind as it is ...3D printing services will blow your mind as it is a mind blowing service..:)it is latest and fastest technology..nice video thanks
adelaide printeradelaide printerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09286263574236151656noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-968575848222434630.post-22054167325136143612011-07-10T14:17:30.832-05:002011-07-10T14:17:30.832-05:00hey check this out-

Guest speaker Doug Johnson, Director of Media and Technology at Mankato Public Schools, lamented that "information literacy" is a term that only librarians use and that we'd have to find a way to spice up the term (I believe he commented that it simply wasn't sexy enough). Already authors are self publishing e-books on Amazon after being turned away from traditional publishing avenues. I also recently read about an author who decided to reduce the price of his e-book to 99 cents, and by selling more copies at that reduced rate, he is seeing higher profit. That said, one of the pay-offs for the music industry when giving away music is the ability to tour & sell merch -- something I can't see some of the older, more reclusive authors like JM Coetzee or the late JD Salinger doing. I could see the Chuck Klosterman, Bill Simmons or Jonathan Foers of the world doing and possibly thriving at it, but do think the art could suffer from forcing the artist to do a dog and pony show..Dillon Younghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10441763358632419598noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-968575848222434630.post-35763272424808990062011-03-15T15:26:32.535-05:002011-03-15T15:26:32.535-05:00Interesting parallel between the music and publish...Interesting parallel between the music and publishing industries, Jessi. I'd actually like to see portions of the publishing industry move in the direction of what has occurred with record labels. Several small more artist-centered companies (True Panther, Matador, 4AD, Rhymesayers etc.) are enabling musicians to reach audiences on a unheard of scale. Many artists - encouraged by their record labels - embrace the practice of giving fans their music for free, something the publishing world is really not into. And all the while the music being produced is flourishing in this environment.David Petersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12012934149199449653noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-968575848222434630.post-55052864900514030142011-03-15T14:59:38.830-05:002011-03-15T14:59:38.830-05:00Artifical restrictions are bad for libraries and a...Artifical restrictions are bad for libraries and authors. Recent news reports, though they may be anecdotal, indicate adults being more stressed about work now that they have 24/7 access to the office coupled with the expectation that they continuously check in.

NBC's Education Nation features just highlighted "Race to Nowhere" which indicates kids are stressed, burned out, and not engaged. Perhaps 24/7 access to school using the technology they choose will combat this - or perhaps it will just increase their stress load.

An interesting list, though, it will be fascinating to see how it plays out.Jenniferhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14723105218157948652noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-968575848222434630.post-34206290243723872412011-03-10T17:02:22.576-06:002011-03-10T17:02:22.576-06:00One of my favorite quotes of late: "Just as h...One of my favorite quotes of late: "Just as hockey has been described as a good fight marred by skating, libraries may have been good information services marred by the need to shelve (and reshelve) content-bearing devices." I do think asking these sorts of questions will get conversations started and that is a good thing.

In regards to physical space, I do think libraries will continue to maintain and staff a physical place. Of course librarians are currently flexible and collaborate with educators, students, and patron in classroom spaces and virtual spaces, but we will continue to offer a unique physical space to our users who will continue to value such a space. I agree with Jessi that these spaces currently are getting busier and busier, and we have the statistics to prove it.Emily Hope Hofherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07121768152052922342noreply@blogger.com
